Services

The New York State Children's Alliance provides technical assistance, assessment and consultation services and trainings through the New York State Child Advocacy Resource and Consultation Center (NYSCARCC), a program of Safe Horizon. NYSCARCC was established in April, 1996 through a grant from the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. CARCC's mission is to work with Multidisciplinary Teams and Child Advocacy Centers throughout New York State to promote and enhance multidisciplinary responses to child sexual abuse, severe child physical abuse, and child fatality reviews.

The multidisciplinary approach maximizes the strength of all disciplines involved in child abuse investigations and minimizes the trauma to child victims. The Center is committed to building on existing resources to benefit multidisciplinary efforts across New York State and to providing services tailored to the needs of each community we serve.

With assistance from the New York State Children's Justice Task Force and the New York State Children's Alliance, CARCC encourages multidisciplinary efforts in the following ways:

Technical Assistance
CARCC provides information to professionals, students, and concerned citizens across the state, and throughout the nation, on issues related to child sexual abuse, child fatality, and the multidisciplinary approach. CARCC's website also has a library resource request page through which you can request articles and other resources directly. If you would like information, please call CARCC toll-free at 866 313 3013 or email at nyscarcc@safehorizon.org.

Assessment and Consultation
Based on the belief that each community faces unique challenges and strengths in developing and sustaining a Multidisciplinary Team and Child Advocacy Center, CARCC provides individualized assessment and consultation services to eligible counties in New York State. These services enable the selected county to assess their level of team functioning, identify their current challenges, and create outcome-orientated goals. If your county would like to apply for assessment and consultation services, please call CARCC toll-free at 866 313 3013 or email at nyscarcc@safehorizon.org.

Trainings

CARCC provides regional trainings throughout the year. CARCC's co-sponsored trainings are designed to enhance critical skills in team building, forensic interviewing, and medical examinations. CARCC has hosted 5 statewide Building Justice for Children Training Seminars, and continues to coordinate Forensic Interviewing Best Practices trainings all over New York State. If your county is interested in training opportunities, please call CARCC toll-free at 866 313 3013 or email at nyscarcc@safehorizon.org.

Listserv
CARCC also maintains a listserv for professionals from all disciplines across New York State who support the multidisciplinary approach. This open forum allows for easy dissemination of information, questions, trainings, and other appropriate dialogues. If you would like to join the CARCC listserv, please send an email to: nyscarcc@safehorizon.org with "Listserv" in the subject headline and provide a brief explanation of your professional affiliation and connection to the child advocacy field.
